CharityCDs.co.uk - helping people help others

Overview of the scheme

CharityCDs operates a scheme that recycles old or unwanted CDs and DVDs to help raise funds for charities. For each CD or DVD that meets the requirements for recycling, CharityCds donates 50p to a nominated charity or voluntary group. It is important to note that for this process not all CDs and DVDs are recyclable.

Donations

Most methods of recycling unwanted CDs and DVDs accept all types of disc, including ones that have no commercial value. As a result of those approaches the average value of each disc is approximately 1p.

CharityCDs operates a more selective approach to recycling by only accepting discs that have a commercial value. This method, although slightly more restrictive means that we can guarantee a donation of 50p per recyclable disc to the nominated charity or voluntary group.

We also try our best to keep our running costs to an absolute minimum in order to maximise the donation we can guarantee.

Costs involved

Due to the costs involved in this process not all CDs and DVDs are recyclable using this method. For instance each item has to have a commercial value, so the free CDs and DVDs that come with magazines and newspapers are incompatible with this process.

When we run this scheme directly with Charities, Voluntary groups, or Businesses we take the step of providing them with a number of marketing and publicity resources free of charge. We try to meet as many of the groups costs as possible in establishing the scheme so that they can concentrate on raising funds for their own objectives.

The only cost involved in participating in this scheme is the cost of transporting the discs to us. Unfortunately at present we can't offer a freepost service, but we do offer advice on ways to reduce this cost.
